January was very exciting, different and exhausting for our little family! On the 11th we received a call wondering if we would like to take in a refugee and on the 14th we took him in. For the sake of his privacy I will not publish any personal information about him like his name, birth day, etc.
It has been so great having him join our home, although at times it has been very sad to see him miss his family and the things he is used to. He walks around the house singing and dancing. He brings a new light to our home.
The most interesting part about bring our Guatemalan into our home is that he does not speak English. While I was serving a mission in Pittsburgh I was lucky enough to serve in an area where most of the people we taught spoke Spanish. It has been over 6 years since I have had practice but it seems to be coming back pretty well. This makes me grateful for the chance I had to serve as a missionary and to learn a language.
There have been some many things that have come up that help me to feel that we have the right person in our home and we are so grateful for him. He teaches us to dance, sing and to speak Spanish.
As I have come closer to our Guatemalan I have gained a greater appreciation for my family, friends, culture and religion. To hear some of his history makes me even more grateful for my history and all the blessings I have received constantly!
